The Department of Pediatrics and Rehabilitation conducts clinical and translational research focused on the diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and long-term management of chronic diseases in children and adolescents.
A major area of expertise is pediatric cardiovascular health, including arterial hypertension, cardiomyopathies, chronic heart failure, functional cardiovascular disorders, and manifestations of connective tissue dysplasia. Research activities focus on cardiovascular adaptation, functional capacity, risk assessment, and factors influencing physical performance and quality of life in pediatric populations.
Another important research direction is pediatric gastroenterology. The Department investigates functional, inflammatory, and destructive gastrointestinal disorders, mechanisms of gastrointestinal motility dysfunction, and approaches to the diagnosis and long-term management of gastroduodenal diseases in children and adolescents.
The Department also has extensive experience in studying adaptive responses of the developing organism to environmental and biological stressors, as well as neuroendocrine and immune mechanisms involved in disease development. Research findings contribute to the development of comprehensive rehabilitation programs and personalized approaches to long-term patient care.
The Department promotes evidence-based strategies for prevention, early diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation aimed at improving health outcomes and quality of life among children and adolescents with chronic somatic diseases.
